I’m not much of an info-graphic guy, but this one certainly hit home with me. I’m also not a huge fan of the quality of food listed below (I would go a bit healthier), but you will get the idea.
Eating out is a true wealth killer. We all know what the math turns out to be, but changing our behavior is the true challenge.
Join me and make a pledge to cut the number of times a week you eat out in half. Throw that extra money to debt or savings. It adds up!
How often do you eat out? Do you have any food savings tips?
Thanks to creditscore.com for the graphic.

This is great advice!
I have carried my lunch for most of my working life. I could never understand the fast-food mindset as it always seemed wasteful of both time and money.
I have been carrying a reusable thermal lunch bag for years. The bag always contains:
1.) Ice Pack
2.) Bottle of Tea
3.) 6oz Yogurt
4.) Spoon
5.) paper napkin
This is prepared in like 45seconds each morning. This is plenty to keep me going through the day and avoids the “I need a nap” feeling common after overeating at lunchtime.
I will take your word that I am saving all kinds of money and assume it has all gone to my creditors and/or my loving wife (who is also a fan of infinitely preplanning my lunches.)
That is one small lunch!! I think I would disappear…
You are definitely saving money with that!
Hello Tony.
This is what we do – We give each other (adults only) $60.00 per week to spend as we will – coffee, movie, share with our teens, lunch or maybe falafel one night. Once the cash is gone, that is it! We brown bag breakfast, lunch and snack. The boys also brought their lunches to school saving $5.00 per day per child. It made a hugh difference in what we were able to save.

Very cool, Miki!
What if you went down to $50 a week….or even 40?? Hmmmmmm……
Thanks for the post!
I have the ultimate brown bag–I work from home.
However, I brown-bagged in virtually every other job I had, aside from working in food service where meals were provided. Maybe I’m weird, but I love leftovers, and they make great brown bag lunches. I can’t imagine going out to eat lunch every day–even if I had the budget, which I never have. Just doesn’t make sense. Getting out of the office, yes, I get that, but brown bagging is the way to go.
Happy New Year!

I have an allowance every month but it’s not that much. It was $15 in 2012 but off the top of my head I can’t remember what it’s been changed to or if it did go up. I don’t use it often unless I buy a case of beer once in a while (not every month). I make my own lunches and never eat out. I also did a lunch and coffee comparison of 2 co-workers, the numbers were staggering.
$15….wow!!! I have mine down to $40 now, but you have inspired me. I, too, have colleagues who eat out every day, spending 70-100 bucks weekly. Unreal!
